2025 Impact & Vision | A Message from Our CEO

2025 was a truly memorable year at Marshall-Starke Development Center.

In April, we completed our transition away from providing sub-minimum wage services across all Day Program locations. This historic shift opened new doors for many of the individuals we serve, resulting in increased participation in Community Integrated Employment with local businesses. It marked an important step forward in promoting independence, dignity, and meaningful opportunity.

We also continued our participation in the SE+ Federal Grant, further strengthening employment pathways and individualized support. Beyond traditional employment, several participants pursued exciting self-employment ventures, including our Joyful Journey storefront. Many individuals also created and sold products through partnerships with local businesses. These collaborations are more than business relationships — they are vital partnerships that advance our mission and strengthen our community.

As you read through this report, I encourage you to learn more about the many ways MSDC continues to grow and innovate. Our Children’s Services, Adult Services, Employment Services, and Residential Services work together to provide a comprehensive continuum of support for individuals and families across all abilities.

In the year ahead, MSDC will celebrate a significant milestone — our 60th anniversary. For six decades, we have walked side by side with the individuals we love and support. This achievement would not have been possible without the generosity and commitment of the communities we serve.

As in years past, I invite you to continue walking alongside us. Together, we can empower individuals and families to grow, thrive, and live with purpose.

In gratitude,

Rick Thompson
President & CEO
